To help organizations scale AI workloads, we recently announced IBM watsonx.data, a data store built on an open data lakehouse architecture and part of the watsonx AI and data platform. The data lakehouse architecture combines the flexibility, scalability and cost advantages of data lakes with the performance, functionality and usability of data warehouses to deliver optimal price-performance for a variety of data, analytics and AI workloads. It is comprised of commodity cloud object storage, open data and open table formats, and high-performance open-source query engines. Previous attempts at addressing some of these challenges have failed to meet their promise. Against this challenging backdrop, the sense of urgency has never been higher for businesses to leverage AI for competitive advantage. Moreover, increased regulatory requirements make it harder for enterprises to democratize data access and scale the adoption of analytics and artificial intelligence (AI). The proliferation of data silos also inhibits the unification and enrichment of data which is essential to unlocking the new insights.
We went to visit the Lakehouse West assisted living facility since we were already in the region, looking at places for my friend's mother to live.There’s no debate that the volume and variety of data is exploding and that the associated costs are rising rapidly. The exercise room was nicely designed with good equipment and they also offer regular classes such as yoga, aerobics, dance and others.Įvery resident we saw appeared to be very well cared for in a peaceful, yet fun environment by kind and attentive staff. The staff takes residents on weekly outings for shopping and entertainment to enjoy all sorts of activities, from nature walks to cultural events. They also had a private dining room for friends and family to enjoy and visit in. The lunch we saw was like you might find in an upscale diner.
The restaurant style dining had many delicious menu choices. The private housing options were all lovely and looked like they had been personalized to the tastes of each resident. We could see that the facility offers plenty of amenities - like social enrichment activities in and around the community. The interior foyer looked like that of a nice motel, but with more space. The outside grounds were colorful, well designed and pleasant, with plenty of nice seating areas.
